This eye-catching Necklace showcases a Mono Lake Obsidian and Sterling Silver Pendant by Nevada Silversmith Jim Daggett. We rockhounded the Obsidian in the foothills of the mountains surrounding Mono Lake in Mono County, CA after some dedicated searching and climbing. Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass; it is completely black with a high-polish shine. Jim shaped a piece of Obsidian into an oval cabochon and set it on a plate of Rolled Sterling Silver that he meticulously textured. The handcrafted, Rolled Sterling is thicker than traditional Sterling Silver Plate, lending substance to the finished piece. The Obsidian is encircled by handmade Sterling Silver Bezel and wrapped in Sterling Silver Ball Wire. The Pendant drapes from a V-Shaped, textured Bail. The piece is stamped on the back with the artist's hallmark and "Sterling." A versatile piece and true work of art.
We've paired the Obsidian & Sterling Pendant with 3 strands of Black Onyx Chip. The Onyx ranges in dimension from 4mm to 8mm and is a rich inky black, polished to a glossy sheen. The Onyx is paired with 4mm Pyrite Nuggets, and antique silver & black diamond Czech Fire Polished Glass Faceted Ovals (4mm and 3mm, respectively), adding color depth and subtle sparkle. The stones are highlighted by 6-by-7mm Hill Tribe Silver Feather-Print Rondelle Beads and 3-by-5mm Sterling Silver Dotted Wheels, adding a touch of shine and elegance to the design. At the top of the Necklace the Onyx Chip transitions to black diamond Czech Glass, streamlining the silhouette and ensuring a comfortable fit. The Necklace is finished with a Silver Platinum Toggle Clasp and adorned with a Southwest Designs Sterling Charm (not shown). The piece is 23-1/2 inches long including the Pendant, which is 2-1/4 inches long by 1-1/4 inches wide, including the 1/2-inch Bail.
